The idea of having a single career is becoming an old fashioned one. The new fashion will be to have several careers or ways of earning money and further education will be something that continues throughout life.

 Reasons - The remuneration from a single job may not be sufficient enough to meet the two ends of the family - High salaried jobs may not provide job satisfaction or relaxation, hence they opt a secondary job or nurture their inborn talents or hobbies and derive economy out of it - Job security is less in private sectors - Learning new technology is vital to withstand in this highly competitive world - To be updated with the moving trends is essential else people may lose their career 

News editors decide what to broadcast on television and what to print in newspapers. What factors do you think influence these decisions? Do we become used to bad news? Would it be better if more good news was reported?

 Factors - The main motive is to increase profit and TRP - Competition among similar mass media  - political pressure especially by ruling parties - Lack of professional ethics - interests of sponsors or advertisers - Negative and sensational news are given importance rather than good news - Professional ethics The need for the good and bad news - Good news: inspirational, motivational, rejuvenates the mind and soul, spread harmony  - Bad news: Stay alert in cases of natural calamities, Awareness about social evils, Learn to empathise 

Should wealthy nations be required to share their wealth among poorer nations by providing such things as food and education? Or is it the responsibility of the governments of poorer nations to look after their citizens themselves?

 Agree - Unethical to enjoy a luxurious life when a part of the world is in starvation, hunger and diseases - Harmony among nations - Poor nations may get a chance to enhance their living standard with aids and job openings from developed nations Disagree - Funds may not reach the needy - Government in poorer nations may act irresponsible - Brain drain  - undeveloped countries may turn into colonies of developed nations, they may never become self reliant and may loose their stand as well

There are many different types of music in the world today. Why do we need music? Is the traditional music of a country more important than the International music that is heard everywhere nowadays?

Some people believe that it is important for young children to go to school as soon as possible. Others, however, believe that children should be allowed to stay at home and play until they are six or seven years old. Which viewpoint do you agree with? Why?

Agree - Working parents --- children are left unattended  at homes  - highly competitive world --- survival of the fittest - peer learning, social- skill developments - good teacher can identify developmental / behavioral defects as they are handling children of same age Disagree - Initial learning starts from their home and surroundings  - Learn family culture and traditions - Too much pressure and tension at a very young age - Get individual attention 

The news is an important source of knowledge for all of us about the world, especially in this era of technology. Journalists are mainly responsible to bring this news to us but not all of them are true to their responsibilities and ethics. How much can we trust the journalists?

Agree - Increase TRP became prime motive - political pressure - Competition in media industry - report news without checking authenticity of it in order to stay ahead of their counterparts Disagree - Journalists value their professional ethics - Brave, courageous and willing to take up any risk to bring out the truth - Unbiased as it can spoil reputation  - Not favor of political parties as ruling party and officials change after every election. 

The use of personal cars has increased more than ever before but this use of cars causes many problems. What are those problems? In order to reduce these problems, should we discourage people to use cars?

Problems - Air pollution by releasing carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides--- Lung diseases such as asthma, bronchitis, allergy - Noise pollution --- honking, vehicle engines - Use of fossil fuels --- green house effect and global warming - Increase in road accidents  - Traffic congestion --- delay, wastage of time, affects productivity Solutions - Encourage people to use public transport by making it affordable, punctual, hygienic and secure. Eg: Luxembourg offers free public transportation.  - Promote carpooling and shared taxi - Increase tax on vehicles and fuel - Limit automobile ownership
